Important Safety Reminder: There have been a number of mountain lion sightings in downtown HMB in the vicinity of Smith Field reported by San Mateo County via their SMC emergency alert system. Please be reminded to be mindful of wild animals while at the fields and supervise your children to ensure safety.
Guest Player Pool: Is your child interested in getting more play time? Sign your child up for the player pool. If there is a team that is short players for a game due to illness or travel, they can leverage the player pool and request to have a guest player assigned for a game. Managers are required to coordinate player pool requests through our player agent - Phil Gordon. There are specific rules to be followed for the guest player to ensure fairness (i.e. bats last, should play majority in the outfield). Sign up HERE by March 15th to be included in the initial prioritization for the player pool which will be assigned eldest to youngest, and will evolve to a first-come first-serve basis.
Field Status: For field closure information, please refer to the field status section of the HMBLL website prior to games and practices. It will be updated daily by 1pm on practice days and as soon as feasible on game days. An email will NOT be sent by the board for every field closure. Team Managers should communicate any changes to schedules to their teams directly.
Schedule/Key Dates:
● Picture Day: March 18th and March 25th - schedule forthcoming from your Team Manager/Parent.
● Batter Up Clinic hosted by the HMBHS baseball Team: Sunday, March 26th from 10am - 1pm. See the below flyer for more information and cost.
● Game Schedule: The game schedule has been issued, aside from playoff games. It is not a mistake - there are two Sundays, April 3rd and April 16th, where we are hosting home games at Smith Field due to the City of Half Moon Bay using Smith those Saturdays.
● Spring Break Weekend: There will be no games the weekend of April 8th due to Easter. Practices will be optional the weeks of spring break and will be determined by the team manager.
● Annual Spaghetti Dinner: Save the Date for April 21st - please check a future issue of Smith Scoop for details about how to get tickets.
● Playoff Schedule (AAA and above): Playoffs will begin after the regular season in early May and be finalized by memorial day.
● Closing & Award Ceremonies: Tentatively scheduled for May 20th.
Positive Coaching Alliance: On Saturday, February 25th, all AAA teams participated in the Jr. Triple Impact Competitor Training facilitated by Peter Wood from the Positive Coaching Alliance. The activities in this training got our AAA players thinking about:
● Not fearing mistakes, but using them to learn and improve;
● Treating their teammates, opponents and officials with respect;
● Understanding the power of positivity and how it can lead to success for teams and individuals.
HMB Pirates Baseball Assessments: Are your kids excited about this season and want to continue playing baseball through the summer? Please check out the HMB Pirates program and make sure to register if interested. This program aims to not conflict with HMBLL as the core of the program will begin Memorial Day through August. Practices to start at the beginning of April.
2023 SKILL ASSESSMENTS are scheduled for March 12th & March 19th at the HMBHS Baseball Field as follows:
● 10U 8-9:30am
● 11U 9:30-11am
● 12U 11-1pm (open practice)
● 7U/8U/9U 1-3pm
